Went to the official start of Relay for Life on Tuesday night with Ray and Judy Robertson. Very successful evening. Got a great plug in for Line Dancing in general. I was interviewed by radio announcer from 89.5FM on how we had the motivation and organisation to raise over $10,000.00. Yee Ha.
I think the Relay for Life team are expecting us to do wonders again. This year I do not have the support.
Judy and I went through all our fundraisers that we did and there wasn't any one time that anyone gave and did not get something back. Like bring and buys, colour demonstrations with afternoon tea. Etc, etc. Each fundraiser we all got something for our money, which Judy and I felt good about.
We did have people who donated money and Gretchen and Helena put on a dinner and Margaret Fraser did an Enjo demo and donated their time and money. Thelma and team did the bring and buys. These kind of events are invaluable.
I have hundreds of ideas swilling around in my head, but no one to carry them out. Energy is a fine thing.
Cheers and thanks to you all. We are winners, and terrific and special and oh I could go on all day. Ha ha ha ha ha....

Napier Pak n Save Half Marathon
Thanks to everyone who wished me well in for the half marathon. I completed it (whew) in a good time. I bet my last time by 7 minutes. Doesn't sound much but think about trying to catch someone who is 7 minutes ahead of you. I completed the marathon in 2 hours 42 minutes. Really pleased.
Rose West was at the half way mark along The Esplande at Westshore with oranges. She ran a block with me. Pam O'Connor was at the finish line with roses. She was a little disappointed because I bet her there.
Here was I collasped on the ground and my name comes over the loud speaker. Others who I was with reckoned it was because I had been caught cheating but it was Pam with the roses. A real surprise. LOL.
Emily came up for the night on Friday to wish me well and for my birthday. That was so nice, I loved it. We squeezed in some special time. After the marathon mum, Wendy, Ray and some friends celebrated with me at Clifton Bay Cafe for lunch.
It was really nice for me to do something I enjoy on my birthday. Thank you to everyone who gave best wishes, hugs, pressies and all your love.

Bus trip
What a great day we had. I'm still smiling. I loved the hula dance off and the charades. Where would you see such great entertainment. I even thought the singing was fantastic (at least we knew the words). Hope you all enjoyed the gifts. Apparently some used the viagra later on in the week as they were too tired. We were all tired but so we should have been. What a day. The ring ins are still talking about it. They hope they get invited to the next bus trip. They don't know what they are missing at our line dancing, do they. We have fun. Wendy really enjoyed having us and wasn't the food delicious.
Also the young boy who entertained us was great. We will probably see more of him in years to come.

Thanks for your offer of help for relay for life. Not sure who you are. There is a launch for Relay for Life at the Napier War Memorial Centre on Tuesday 13th. I will only go if there is enough interest from others. I have decided not to do any more fundraising unless others approach me with an interest or passion to do something.
One lady from Friday class has a really great fundraiser coming up in February which I will help with.
I have many ideas but they will probably stay ideas without support.
Thank you once again, I appreciate it.

Poem from Emily to her Nana (Joan A)
Emily said...
I thought this poem was really cool. Pass it on to Nana for me please :)
The grandkids like to visit,
They are always stopping by
Sure They'll find their grandma,
In the kitchen baking pie.
But times have changed since grandma
Learned to twinkle and vine.
She can hook and hitch and scoot,
Her jazz box is real fine.
Oh, grandma's in the kitchen still,
In cold and snowy weather.
But she's not baking cookies , kids!
She's out there slappin' leather!

Monday class at Heretaunga Club
Well we had a good turnout for the first day. Everyone went home a bit blurry eyed. I think I might have made them think a bit. Good though. Changed the format as well. Only had 1 or two who wanted revision, so ended teaching all the way through the first two hours. Didn't do the third hour as planned but did have 4 people turn up for a learners session. Will definitely do the learners section if the demand is there. These people are going to try and get more learners.
We will continue on with the format that we started with on 1st day.
The floor is superb and so are the accoustics. Great venue.

yet another break for line dancing
Had a wonderful break for the school holidays. The first week I cleaned up the garden (which now needs doing again) and I also updated our little cottage which we rent out for holiday accommodation. I am very pleased with it.
Then Ray & I went to Auckland for three nights and wow we had an awesome time, but I don't think I have fully recovered yet. I think we think we are still teenagers.
Our lovely daughter came home for a couple of days and it was so awesome just having her around. We had a lovely time. Ray had a week holiday too and we took her 2nd hand shopping. I love to do that as some of you know. Got some cool stuff. Some retro stuff, some clothes, some antiques. It is amazing what you can find. The three of us tootled round Napier in Rays 1930 Chrysler.
I am now in training for Napier Pak n Save half marathon on the 11th Nov. Am now up to walking just over 2 hours. Will have a trial run of 3 hours this labour weekend.
So, yes we have no dancing this Friday and Monday of labour weekend. Hope to get into the garden again.
Let me know if anyone is doing anything this weekend. We would all love to hear about it.
Have a great weekend and see you at dancing.

Trip 30 October 2007
Plans are coming together for this bus trip. If you haven't got your name on the list in class do so. There are a couple of seats left. We have a bigger bus this year and have already got more people going than other years. Still waiting on confirmation from suppliers etc for costs. Won't be too much for a lovely day out.
You will need to bring, comfortable shoes for dancing outside, reading glasses and suitable clothing depending on weather (hats, coats etc) A name tag is a really good idea too. Will up date later on what else to bring.
Bus will leave Countdown supermarket carpark at 9.30am and return around 4.30pmish. I am trying to work out another pick up for Haumoana (if cost is ok) Napier dancers might like to get this pick up as well. Cars could be left safely.
We have another Demo at Mary Doyle resthome if anyone wants to take part. Email me to confirm. Last time was a huge success. We had about 10-12 dancers and the residents just loved our entertainment. It was a really festive afternoon. Thanks to all who attended. Great community spirit. The next date is 9 October 2007 11am for approximately 3/4 hour.
Class for revision, learners and upper level dancers is still on hold waiting on National Service Club. I am looking in other avenues. Will keep you posted.
Cheers, Happy Dancing Felicity

Kim my sister
Those of you who have met Kim my sister either at class or on the cruise will be interested to know what she is up to. She has being doing a web designer/builder course in Melbourne where she lives and has built my wonderful web site. She will update it for me periodically. So keep going back to the gallery and dance sheets and events. Problem is I have to give her all the info. She has renovated her home this year, from top to bottom. Had 2 cats that she adopted when she was in Vanuatu and one cat Maggie got run over a few weeks ago. Since then she has bought a new cat Heidi (sounds corny at first but, Heidi hides all the time. Now thats ok then to call Heidi, Heidi, isn't it) !!??
Kims latest thing is she has lost another 6 kilos at weight watchers. She has been losing weight for years but could never lose the last few kilos. Over the years she has lost heaps. She even ran her own version weight loss group in Vanuatu. Anyway, she has now been accepted (only four chosen in Australia) to have a photo shoot for the weight watchers magazine and story on her weight loss. Good on her. Go Kim. she gets flown to Sydney all expenses paid and made up, pampered and dressed up all day. That happens in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to see the mag.

Weekend in Upper Hutt 7/8 Sept 2007
Guess what we did in Wellington at the Gordon Elliott workshop. We left at lunch time on Friday after class. Stopped in Dannevirke for coffee and arrived at motel just in time for dinner. I think the most of the motel was filled with line dancers from Hawkes Bay. We all had dinner in my unit and Emily came up from Wellington city. We went off to the social after dinner and danced for 3 hours. Not much sleep that night, but we were ready for dancing and learning. We learnt 9 dances and danced from 10am to 4pm. Whew! We were tired out (putting it nicely) We then had dinner at hall went back to motel for an hour then back to dancing at 6pm until 10.30pm. We literally danced our socks off. Only problem was we had trouble getting the socks off when we got home. We crashed that night but were up bright and early to head to Greytown for breakfast. Colleen, Pam, Annette and Margaret, oh & Ray the driver were great company and we all got to know each other a little better including who can snore the loudest etc etc. A fun weekend was had by all. Learnt some fabulous dances, met some interesting people and the hospitalily was great.

What a great social
The social Saturday 1 Sept. was a huge success. I have had so many positive comments. They have been wonderful to hear. I am glad so many had a great time. There were 60 people at the social. We only had two breaks, one near the beginning and one for afternoon tea. That's 3 solid hours of dancing. We had a great choice of requests which kept the dance floor full at all times, there was something for everyone. Maybe we should do it again. Also what a fantastic afternoon tea. Thanks go out to all of you who supplied the wonderful food and special thanks to the people who helped out either at the door or in the kitchen or who supplied raffles etc. Special thanks to Judy, Joy, Gail, Colleen and Pat Parsons. The social was a success because so many people contributed and participated (Thats all of you). All the raffle prizes went to line dancers, wasn't that great. There were also so many spot prizes. Awesome.
Well, this weekend I am off to Upper Hutt to see Australian dance instructor and choreographer Gordon Elliott. He is fantastic, we dance so many of his dances or dances that he has taught in NZ. Most dances become favourites. It is a fun weekend and all we do is dance, dance, dance. Ray is driving me and four other ladies down, we will stay in a Motel that is filled with line dancers from around NZ. Ray & I will also catch up with Emily. She will come up from Wellington and stay with us. Fun Fun Fun. So watch out for the new dances that I bring back.
If anyone reads this before tomorrow, Friday, we have a seat and bed available.
Also coming up is Blossom Parade day, you might like to join us in the walk (more fun) 15 Sept, Saturday, let me know.
Happy dancing, Felicity

Remember to read all the comments
Click on comments to find out what everyone has to say. There has been a really interesting comment posted about rebounders following our amazing afternoon with Hamish Tailyour. I just have to remember to get on my rebounder. What I usually do is 1 or 2 minutes at a time a couple of times a day. I should do more.
You will have to check out my new music system. I am loving it. Sam says I need a t-shirt that reads "Rockin's what I do". Yeah. The guy who built it reckons you got to look the part when you are playing your music. He rocks.
Also my excellent excellent web site. Designed by my wonderful awesome sister Kim. It is so clear and easy to read and access. Nice to look at especially if you can find a photo of yourself there. He He He. If anyone wants a web site built and designed I can let Kim know.
I have had a very exciting week. Very special and I am very spoilt. Can't wait to share everything with you all.
Cheers

Thanks for your comments
Firstly Annie, I would like to say that you pick up the dances incredibly quickly and I was so impressed with your son. He was great. He also was able to do any dance. I will put the dance sheet Memory Lane on my web site http://www.felicitysdancingline.co.nz/ Have you seen the dance sheets on there. They are in alphbetical order. I am having trouble getting music at the moment because I have the new windows vista and it doesn't seem to like some internet sites. I will talk to you at class about this Annie.
If anyone has a dance sheet that I have not got. Email it to me. It is the easiest way for me to put it on my web site. Also class photos are easiest emailed to me too.
Have an awesome week and remember the dance social is this Saturday 1 September. And if you want to be in blossom parade in Hastings on 15 Sept. Let me know or write your name on list which is at classes.
Cheers Felicity

What a great afternoon on Tuesday 21st
We had a lovely afternoon today. Hamish gave a really interesting informative talk on being independent and non-neurotic in looking after our own health and being responsible for our own health. These days we tend to blame all sorts of things and rely on many things to keep pain and discomfort at bay. He was so easy to understand and basic and commonsense in his ideas and suggestions. Of the 18 people who attended, there wasn't one who did not enjoy and get something from his talk. It is amazing how we have got away from basic living and eating that we all did when we were young. Just every day things.
Thanks to all of you who came and thanks to Annette, Judy, Joy and Lois who got friends to come along. There were a third of non linedancers there today. Hamish was encouraged to continue his talk which ran us over time and so afternoon tea will now be shared at Wednesdays class, that is if Sam and Ray haven't eaten it all.
If you have read all the comments on this blog you will see that I have been trying to answer all queries.
To the new line dancer. All people are very very welcome to come to our socials. It is a great opportunity to see the different levels of dancers and to see what you can achieve also, within a short time. Also you will see the fun and the passion that we have. Social is on 1 September. We will have raffles and door prizes.

I wasn't going to wrap the spot prizes. Does anyone think I should. Give me your views on this or you may have some good ideas or some talent for wrapping spot prizes. LOL

Tips for beginners
Experience is the best tip for line dancing. The more you dance the better you get. I have people who come more than once a week and they definitely pick up the dances more easily than most people who come only once a week. Another way to remember the dances is to get the step sheet for the dances that you have learnt at class and practise at home. The hardest thing about line dancing is not the physical side of it but remembering the dance sequence. You can go on line and search the dance sheets.
Also I have had a query about where to find Bay Coasters line dancing on a Friday. We are at the Hibernian Club Hastings. Use the back entrance as club is not open for business when we start dancing. This class on a Friday 10am and is the best class to start in. The level is from learner to beginner level so it is easier to learn some of the different dance steps (these can be found on line as well). I will be starting a new learner class in September if there is enough interest. Let me know if you are keen.
Looking forward to Social on 1 September at Friendship Centre, Taradale 1.30pm-5pm with afternoon tea.

to read everyones comments do this
Hey Pat,
Clever girl. To read everyones comments look at the left of the screen and click on comments listed under blog archive.
Tested myself at dancing today. Tried really hard to push myself and my legs and knees held up. A little sore but not as bad since I have been doing the stretches that the physio has given me.
Next week we have Hamish Tailyour at 1.30pm on Tuesday 21st August at the CancerSociety rooms in Nelson Street.
Bus trip for Bay Coasters is on Tuesday 30th October. Will be a lovely day. We will relax and dance and spend time with each other, oh and also eating yum. Fun will be had by all. I will get all the details out about this soon.
Have an awesome week. Keep on dancing.

how to make a post
Apparently, if you choose other or anonymous, you don't have to register with google to get an account.
Glad to see you are all using my blog. Had a great lunch at Cafe Devine today. Huge meals and we (my playgroup) were all impressed. Great service.
yes I still belong to a playgoup, we don't take the kids anymore (actually, I don't think they would come). Gave up on that 10 or so years ago. We go out every couple of months and catch up as if we only saw each other yesterday. Had a great lunch today girls if you are reading this. Emily or anyone can you tell me if everyones comments are able to be read if not can you tell me how I rectify this.
Thanks Sue for your comments about Monday class. I have a wonderful time too.

week of 6 August 2007
Well... Finished the marathon. So pleased with myself. Did a really good time. 2:49. In my age group of 176 women I came 18th. Very pleased. My knees were excellent during and after the race. After line dancing on Monday night was a different story. Back to physio tomorrow. But all and all I have recovered extremely well. Better than the last one. I had great support in Taupo. Ray was there all the way. Emily and her friend came up from Wellington which I am so chuffed about and Mary and Barry Jones were in Taupo to cheer me on. I got so much moral support from everyone, I am so lucky.
Monday class I taught Beat me Daddy and hope to teach it on Friday. Wednesday I want to teach Boobyalla.
Dates to remember: 21st aug Hamish Tailyour speaking on Healthy living and 1st Sept OUR social.
If you have a question for me. Post it here and I will get back to you. Also, it may be a question lots of people want the answer for. Like what step goes in what dance etc etc.
cheers have an awesome week. Felicity

Week of 30 July 2007
Had a very sad week. Physio told me not to line dance or do gym, just rest. I tried. Monday class only did the walk throughs. Very boring. I even got a bit a jealous. The music was so good. Didn't take my dance shoes though. Thats so I couldn't dance. But if I want to do the half marathon in Taupo this weekend, I have to be good.
On a better note. Had a tremdous time at Napier RSA line dance workshop. All the teachers in HB taught a dance. Hope we do it again. I taught Beat me Daddy and Boobyalla. All the other dances were great too. Colleen taught a dance she choreographed and I loved it. I was so pleased to see so many of my dancers at the workshop. A workshop is a great experience and it gives an opportunity to see what other dances are out there. Great for teachers too.
Anyway, I still hope to make the half marathon. Will give up date on that next week.
